November 2018

Just a wee bit of sewing happened in November this year.

PROJECTS

I sewed a black velvet shrug using this Lekala pattern (my first, thanks to a gift voucher from lovely generous Nicole). I needed the shrug to wear with my Marine Ball gown. I was nervous submitting my measurements, thinking, what if it is too small, but it fit quite well. I would have liked a little more coverage on the sides and upper chest, but based on the line drawings, I think this fits as it is intended to.  It used about 3/4 of a yard of some stretch velvet that I purchased locally for this purpose.

I also made another Blackwood cardigan using some purple rayon knit bought earlier this year. I used the adjusted pattern pieces that I had used for the last cardigan, so I think the cardigan is a medium shoulder grading to an XL under the armscye, and with 3/8" added to the sides of the sleeves. In that post, I mentioned needing to just do a full bicep adjustment already, but I don't think I ever actually did it.

Both sides of the cardigan are the same length, despite what it appears in the photo. In any case, this cardigan is very useful, if maybe not quite warm enough to wear in the evenings here. I wear a cardigan almost every day, as the average daily temperature is around 58 degrees, and our apartment is unheated. 2.2 yards used.

PURCHASES

I went fabric shopping for the first time here, to find the stretch velvet for my shrug. After coming up empty-handed in a few proper fabric shops, I ended up on the top floor of a discount clothing store, where they were selling fabric remnants from the factory.  There I bought:

Black stretch velvet fabric remnant - 1.25 yards
Some stretchy eggshell fabric with metallic gold designs - 2.3 yards

FABRIC IN/OUT

November Fabric In: 3.55
November Fabric Out: 2.95 yards

YTD Fabric In: 107.78 yards
YTD Fabric Out: 85.84 yards

  2. Thank you! I'm definitely happy to have the shrug in the closet for the few occasions where I will need it.
